Dissension, as a volume of poetry starts with a heartfelt plea to the Almighty, and ends with a treatise to the universality of religion and a belief in a higher power. However, in between, the poet manages to touch on topics, while semi-autographical in nature, have a bearing on the way we could see the world. The people in her life, the nature around her and feminism within show up in various allusions throughout the volume. The poems explore a life that has gone through many different phases, and ideas a bit different, a bit dissimilar to the norm.
Born and brought up in Bhubaneswar, Orissa, Gopa set up a home and raised her two sons in Hong Kong and Singapore. She then moved to Oxford to pursue her Masters leading to a DPhil from Oxford University. It was during her stay in Oxford that her words found meaning in poetry.
